Maine vs. Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. (Interstat) — For the second consecutive night, the Greensboro Swarm edged the Maine Celtics in a high-scoring G League thriller, securing a 122-120 victory on Saturday at Greensboro Coliseum Fieldhouse.

The game was a mirror image of the previous night’s overtime contest, featuring another frantic finish. With eight seconds remaining and Greensboro trailing by one, Jaylen Sims’ driving layup was blocked by Maine’s Ron Harper. Tidjane Salaun secured the offensive rebound and immediately kicked it out to the perimeter, where he drained a 25-foot 3-pointer to put the Swarm ahead 122-120.

Maine called a timeout to advance the ball but could not get a final shot to fall, dropping their second straight heartbreaker to fall to 0-2 on the young season. Greensboro improved to 2-0.

The contest was an offensive showcase defined by contrasting styles. The Swarm’s victory was powered by a torrent of three-pointers, as they connected on 19 of 38 attempts from beyond the arc. Maine countered with superior efficiency inside, shooting 41 for 75 from the floor overall, but struggled from deep, making just 7 of 28 long-range attempts.

Greensboro’s offensive attack was balanced and potent. Antonio Reeves led the Swarm with 22 points, while Jaylen Sims and Keyontae Johnson each added 21. Johnson’s scoring outburst was particularly efficient, coming in just 16 minutes of play. Tidjane Salaun provided a major spark off the bench with 19 points and seven rebounds, including the game-winning shot.

Maine was carried by the standout performances of Ron Harper and Amari Williams. Harper poured in a game-high 29 points to go with six rebounds and three assists. Williams was a force in the paint, scoring 25 points and grabbing nine rebounds while also dishing out four assists. Wendell Moore also contributed 15 points and six rebounds for the Celtics.

Despite the loss, Maine was more efficient with its possessions, posting an offensive rating of 130.5 points per 100 possessions compared to Greensboro’s 125.5. However, the Swarm’s significant advantage in three-point shooting and offensive rebounding, where they held a 9-3 edge, proved to be the difference.

The game was tight throughout, with neither team building a substantial lead. Maine took a narrow 64-58 advantage into halftime, but Greensboro surged ahead with a 33-point third quarter. The final period saw multiple lead changes, setting the stage for Salaun’s dramatic late-game heroics.

The two teams will not meet again in the regular season. Maine looks for its first win on the road against Raptors 905 on Wednesday. Greensboro travels to face the Delaware Blue Coats on Thursday.
