Rotor Volgograd vs Biolog

VOLGOGRAD, Russia (Interstat) — Defender Sergey Obivalin scored twice to lead Rotor Volgograd to a 3-2 victory over Biolog on Saturday in the opening week of the Russian FNL 2 season at Volgograd Arena.

The home side surged ahead with three goals in a decisive seven-minute span just before halftime, a flurry that proved enough to withstand a late push from the visitors.

After a tense opening half-hour that saw Biolog’s Nikita Kargin receive the game’s first yellow card in the 34th minute, Rotor broke through in the 41st. Obivalin, a 6-foot-2 defender from Moscow, opened the scoring with his first goal of the match.

The momentum swung decisively in Rotor’s favor just three minutes later. Midfielder Yuri Zavezen, a native of Solenoe, doubled the lead in the 44th minute with a well-taken strike. Zavezen’s celebration was short-lived, however, as he was shown a yellow card a minute later just before the halftime whistle.

Rotor emerged from the break with immediate purpose. Obivalin completed his brace in the 48th minute, powerfully heading home to extend the lead to 3-0 and seemingly put the game out of reach.

Biolog refused to capitulate and mounted a spirited comeback in the second half. The visitors pulled a goal back in the 65th minute, applying sustained pressure on the Rotor defense. Their resolve was further rewarded with a second goal in the 82nd minute, setting up a tense finale. Rotor’s defense, marshaled by the commanding Obivalin, ultimately held firm through seven minutes of stoppage time to secure the three points.

The result defied the pregame projection from Interstat, whose game simulator had forecast a 1-1 draw. The same analytics system had given Rotor Volgograd a 73 percent probability of winning based on its ELO ratings.

The victory marked a successful start to the FNL 2 campaign for Rotor Volgograd, improving their league record to one win and no losses. It also served as a bounce-back performance following a 2-1 loss to Veles in a different competition on Sept. 24, 2025, which had left their overall season record at one win and one loss across all tournaments.

For Biolog, the loss continued a difficult start to their season. They remain winless in the FNL 2 with a record of no wins and two losses, a mark that matches their overall record across all competitions this season.

Biolog will look to regroup quickly, as their schedule shows a swift turnaround with a match against Rubin Yalta later on the same date, Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026.

Obivalin’s dominant two-goal performance from the back line was the clear difference, earning him top star honors for the match. His defensive partner, Zavezen, contributed a goal in his 68-minute shift before being substituted in the 22nd minute of the second half. Biolog’s Aleksandr Panchenko received a yellow card in the 59th minute during his team’s attempted fightback.
