Nunez’s late equalizer gives Carabobo a draw against Metropolitanos

VALENCIA (Interstat) — Matias Nunez scored in the 85th minute to pull Carabobo level and force a 1-1 draw with Metropolitanos in a match played on Sunday at Estadio Polideportivo Misael Delgado. Metropolitanos had taken the lead 10 minutes earlier when Saimon Ramirez found the net in the 75th minute. The visitors could not hold the advantage, and Carabobo’s late response split the points in a contest that grew increasingly physical after a scoreless first half.

The decisive sequence came late. Metropolitanos broke through when Ramirez scored in the 75th minute, giving the visiting side a one-goal cushion. Carabobo pressed for an answer and found it with five minutes of regulation remaining. Nunez, whose statline listed 90 minutes, supplied the equalizer in the 85th minute. The goal capped a Carabobo push that had grown stronger as the second half wore on. Neither side produced another goal, although the closing minutes included several cautions and substitutions that interrupted the flow. The final whistle arrived after a lengthy stoppage period, with Carabobo’s equalizer standing as the last goal of the contest.

Nunez’s statline read 90 minutes and one goal. Ramirez’s statline read 30 minutes, one goal and a yellow card. Ramirez’s goal had put Metropolitanos in position for a road result, but Carabobo’s response ensured the home side avoided defeat. The game was played at Estadio Polideportivo Misael Delgado. The result preserved Carabobo’s unbeaten run in the competition and extended Metropolitanos’ draw-heavy league record.

Discipline was a major part of the match. Carabobo’s Cova received yellow cards in the 15th and 44th minutes. Perez J. was booked for Carabobo in the 62nd minute. Metropolitanos’ Sangiovani R. was cautioned in the 76th, followed by Stifano F. in the 82nd. Ramirez S. was shown a yellow card in the 88th minute, and Carabobo’s Aponte L. also was booked in the 88th. Riasco J. of Metropolitanos was cautioned in the 90th-plus-2nd minute, and Carabobo’s Silva M. received a yellow card in the 90th-plus-7th minute. The bookings added stoppage time and made the final stages difficult for both sides to sustain rhythm.

Substitutions also influenced the closing stretch. Metropolitanos made a 60th-minute change with Zalzman D., then brought on Ayine G. and Figueroa R. in the 69th minute. Carabobo made two changes in the 65th minute, bringing on Berios J. and Orozco Y., and two more in the 70th, with Mendoza S. and Bahachille A. entering. Metropolitanos added Manenti F. and Miku in the 83rd minute. Carabobo’s Perez J. was replaced in the 89th minute. The changes did not produce a winner, but they helped both teams maintain pressure through the final minutes.

The draw moved Metropolitanos to 1-0-4 in this competition and 1-1-4 across all competitions. Carabobo is now 3-0-2 in the competition and 4-0-2 overall. The home side remained unbeaten across both records, while Metropolitanos continued a run of draws in league play. Neither side has lost in this competition this season.

Metropolitanos entered the match after a scoreless draw with Portuguesa and a 2-2 draw at La Guaira. Earlier in its run, Metropolitanos lost to Anzoategui FC, drew with Estudiantes Merida and beat Rayo Zuliano 4-0. Carabobo entered after a 3-1 home win over La Guaira and a 3-1 road win at Portuguesa. Carabobo also had wins over Mineros and Anzoategui FC and a draw with Dep. Tachira. Both sides are scheduled to meet again in their next competition fixture.
