Kifisia shuts out Asteras Tripolis 2‑0 in road victory

STADIO, Greece (Interstat) — Kifisia scored once before halftime and again early in the second half and defeated Asteras Tripolis 2-0 Tuesday at Stadio Theodoros Kolokotronis. Kifisia improved to 1-0 in the competition and 3-1 across all competitions, while Asteras fell to 0-1 in the competition and 1-2-1 overall. The visiting side controlled the most important moments of the match, scoring in the 41st and 51st minutes, and kept Asteras off the score sheet despite the home side’s changes after the break. It was a road result built on two finishes and a disciplined defensive effort.

Jordi Mboula opened the scoring in the 41st minute for Kifisia, and Dimitrios Theodoridis added the second in the 51st. The goals came in a 10-minute span either side of halftime and gave Kifisia the cushion it needed. Mboula and Theodoridis each played 64 minutes before being substituted, and their finishes stood as the decisive plays in a match that otherwise featured plenty of midfield friction and a series of stoppages.

Kifisia’s attacking support came from Hugo Sousa and Konstantinos Polykratis, each of whom recorded an assist. Polykratis was also booked in the 48th minute and was substituted in the 53rd, while Sousa was replaced in the 70th after helping create one of Kifisia’s goals. Kifisia’s discipline became a storyline as the match wore on: Apostolakis K. was booked in the 26th minute, Polykratis in the 48th and Abanda L. in the 54th. Apostolakis came off at halftime, and Polykratis followed shortly after his booking. The yellow cards did not prevent Kifisia from protecting its lead.

Asteras Tripolis made changes at halftime and then a triple substitution in the 61st minute, when Chicco J., Kimpioka B. and Orozco F. entered. Gonzalez E. had already come on at halftime, and Laskaris D. entered in the 70th. The home side pushed for a response, but Kifisia’s defense held and Asteras could not find a goal. Those substitutions gave Asteras fresh legs, but the home side could not turn possession into a clear scoring chance. Kifisia also made use of its bench: Apostolakis was replaced at halftime, Polykratis in the 53rd, Mboula and Theodoridis in the 64th, and Sousa in the 70th.

The result continued a strong run for Kifisia, which entered the match after a 3-2 win at Iraklis 1908 and had also beaten Panetolikos 2-0 at home before a 2-1 loss to Aris. Asteras, meanwhile, came in after a 0-0 draw with Levadiakos, following a 5-1 loss at Panathinaikos and a 2-1 home win over Atromitos. Kifisia’s win gave it a 1-0 record in the competition, while Asteras dropped to 0-1. Across all competitions, Kifisia moved to 3-1, and Asteras moved to 1-2-1.

Mboula’s opener in the 41st minute changed the match’s shape. Kifisia had already picked up an early yellow card through Apostolakis, but the goal allowed the visitors to play with a lead. Theodoridis then struck in the 51st, shortly after play resumed, and Kifisia’s advantage became two goals. The second goal came after Polykratis had been booked and before he was substituted, underscoring how much of the key action occurred around Kifisia’s midfield. Sousa’s assist and Polykratis’s assist were part of the buildup that helped Kifisia convert its chances. The clean sheet ensured Asteras’s halftime and second-half substitutions did not change the outcome. Kifisia’s back line preserved the shutout through the closing stages, and Asteras never found a consolation goal.
