SDS outlasts Gold Devils in wild, high-scoring Monday contest

INTERSTAT (Interstat) — SDS survived a frantic, back-and-forth match against the Gold Devils, never trailing and holding off the home side for a victory on Monday in a competition opener that produced a rush of goals and several sharp swings in momentum. The visiting side struck early and often, then withstood a hat trick from Tarik Gidaree and a persistent push from the Gold Devils over the final hour. The visitors’ early pressure set the tone, and the Gold Devils spent much of the first half chasing the game.

SDS opened the scoring in the 4th minute when Ergys Pepaj found the net. Amine Sassi doubled the lead in the 13th minute, and Kazaiah Sterling made it a three-goal lead in the 14th minute as the visitors threatened to pull away before the match had settled. The Gold Devils answered in the 15th minute through Gidaree, but SDS restored its cushion moments later when Joshua Bohui scored in the 15th minute. Gidaree struck again in the 16th minute, and SDS added another goal in the 18th minute to keep the pace relentless. The quick exchange of goals left little time for either side to settle.

Gidaree completed his hat trick in the 25th minute, pulling the Gold Devils closer, but Pepaj scored his second goal of the match in the 28th minute for SDS. Bilal Sayoud scored for the Gold Devils in the 29th minute, and the home side added another goal in the 30th minute, cutting the deficit and turning the remainder of the match into a tense chase. Neither side scored again, leaving SDS to protect its advantage through the final hour. All of the match’s scoring came in a wild opening 30 minutes, with the second half played in a more controlled rhythm. The Gold Devils’ late first-half goals gave them hope, but SDS held its lead at the interval.

Gidaree finished with three goals while playing the full 90 minutes for the Gold Devils, scoring in the 15th, 16th and 25th minutes. Sayoud also played 90 minutes and scored once, finding the net in the 29th minute. For SDS, Pepaj played 90 minutes and scored twice, with goals in the 4th and 28th minutes, while Sassi and Sterling each played 90 minutes and scored once. Sassi scored in the 13th minute, Sterling in the 14th, and Bohui made the most of a one-minute appearance by scoring in the 15th minute. SDS’s Kirby N. received a yellow card in the 21st minute.

The Gold Devils pressed for an equalizer after the break, but SDS kept its shape and managed the closing minutes without conceding again. The home side’s attempts to turn possession into a leveling goal came up short as the visitors cleared their lines and slowed the tempo when needed. SDS’s defense, which had been tested repeatedly during the first-half flurry, held firm after the 30th-minute goal. The visitors also drew several fouls in midfield as they worked to run down the clock, and the Gold Devils were unable to find a final breakthrough despite continuing to push forward.

The result moved SDS to 1-0 in the competition and 1-0 across all competitions. The Gold Devils fell to 0-1 in the competition and 0-1 across all competitions. SDS’s victory came in its first match of the competition, while the Gold Devils dropped their opener at home. The Gold Devils’ competition record and overall record are identical after the opener.

Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Gold Devils 1, SDS 0. Interstat’s ELO system had projected Gold Devils with a 65.3 percent probability to win.
