Lille U19 beats Arsenal U19 3‑2 in youth football

LONDON (Interstat) — Lille U19 scored three goals and held off Arsenal U19 for a 3-2 victory on Tuesday in a global football match. Ismael Camara opened the scoring in the 16th minute for Lille. Arsenal answered through Joshua Ogunnaike in the 28th minute. Saad Boussadia restored Lille’s lead in the 43rd minute. Elijah Upson scored Arsenal’s second goal in the 57th minute. Yeli Traore also scored for Lille, and the visitors made that advantage stand. Lille U19 moved to 1-0 in the competition and 1-0 across all competitions. Arsenal U19 dropped to 0-1 in the competition and 0-1 across all competitions. The home side pressed late, but Lille’s defense held firm to protect the narrow margin.

The first half set a brisk tone. Camara struck early to give Lille the lead, but Arsenal responded when Ogunnaike found the net. The match grew physical, with Murisa T. of Arsenal booked in the 18th minute and Kebe H. of Lille cautioned in the 21st. Lille regained the advantage just before the break when Boussadia scored in the 43rd minute. Arsenal had chances to level again before halftime, but Lille’s defense limited the clearest openings. The visitors went into the interval with a one-goal cushion, while Arsenal looked for ways to increase pressure after the restart. Lille took a 2-1 lead into the break.

The second half brought more changes and more cards. Nwaneri E. of Arsenal was booked in the 53rd minute. Upson then scored in the 57th minute, pulling Arsenal back into the match. Arsenal made a substitution in the 58th minute, removing Nwaneri E. Lille responded with a double change in the 63rd minute, bringing on Nkounkou E. and Mallong R. Munoz L. of Arsenal was booked in the 71st minute. Lille’s Mokhtari B. was cautioned in the 75th minute. Both teams made further substitutions in the 76th minute, with Arsenal introducing Julienne T. and Bernard M. and Lille sending on Muamba L. Lille used another substitution in the 90+1st minute, bringing on Hadiri E. Traore’s goal for Lille helped the visitors stay in front as Arsenal pressed for a late answer. The closing minutes featured little clear-cut action as Lille managed the clock and kept Arsenal at bay.

Camara was Lille’s top performer, finishing with one goal and one assist while playing the full match. Upson scored for Arsenal and remained on the field for the entire match. Ogunnaike also scored for Arsenal over the full match. Boussadia scored for Lille. Traore added Lille’s other goal. Munoz provided an assist and received a yellow card in 44 minutes. Nwaneri also recorded an assist and a yellow card in 58 minutes. Camara, Upson, Ogunnaike, Boussadia and Traore each remained on the field for the entire match. Lille’s record in the competition stands at 1-0, and its record across all competitions is 1-0. Arsenal is 0-1 in the competition and 0-1 across all competitions.

Arsenal twice found goals through Ogunnaike and Upson, but Lille’s finishing in the first half and its ability to add another goal proved decisive. Camara’s early strike and later assist set the tone for Lille, while Boussadia and Traore delivered the other goals. The five yellow cards and nine substitutions reflected a match that grew increasingly fragmented as both teams chased a result. Arsenal’s assists came from Munoz and Nwaneri before each was shown a yellow card. Lille managed the closing stages well enough to protect its narrow advantage and secure the win. The result left Lille unbeaten in its opening match, while Arsenal remained without a win.

Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Arsenal U19 1, Lille U19 0. Interstat’s ELO system had projected Arsenal U19 with a 65.3 percent probability to win.
