Viking U19 use two-goal burst to blank Bayern U19

STAVANGER, Norway (Interstat) — Viking U19 scored once in each half and defeated Bayern U19 2-0 on Tuesday, turning a tight under-19 football match with a decisive two-goal stretch while keeping the visiting side off the scoresheet.

Neither side broke through in the opening half-hour, but Viking U19 found the breakthrough before halftime. Tveiten’s finish in the 36th minute came after the home side pressed forward and created the clearest chance of the first period. Bayern U19 had little time to respond before the interval, and the visitors went into halftime trailing.

Sondre Tveiten gave Viking U19 the lead in the 36th minute, finishing the home side’s most sustained attacking sequence of the first half. The goal separated the teams at the break and forced Bayern U19 to chase the game after halftime.

Viking U19 doubled the advantage three minutes after the restart when Elias Arifagic scored in the 48th minute. Kelvin Ansah Frimpong provided the assist before he was substituted in the 77th minute, and the second goal gave the home side a cushion that Bayern U19 could not erase.

The second goal arrived quickly after the restart, changing the match’s complexion. Arifagic’s 48th-minute strike gave Viking U19 breathing room and meant Bayern U19 needed two goals to salvage a result. Frimpong’s assist was his most influential contribution before he left the field in the 77th minute.

Arifagic and Tveiten each played the full match and scored, while Frimpong’s 77-minute shift included the assist. Tveiten also received a yellow card in the 90th minute plus two minutes of stoppage time, after Viking U19 had already established control. The card was the only booking against the home side.

The bookings reflected the growing tension as Bayern U19 tried to recover. Daiber D. went into the book in the 50th minute, and Pavic F. followed in the 77th. Tveiten’s stoppage-time yellow card came after the outcome was no longer in doubt. Viking U19 committed to defending its advantage and limited the space available in the final third.

Bayern U19’s efforts to respond were disrupted by yellow cards and substitutions. Daiber D. was booked in the 50th minute, and Pavic F. was cautioned in the 77th. Bayern U19 made changes at halftime, in the 60th minute, and in the 70th and 87th minutes, while Viking U19 also rotated to protect its lead and manage the closing stages.

Both benches used their options in an attempt to influence the closing stages. Bayern U19 made a halftime change and another in the 60th minute, then used two substitutions in the 70th minute and one in the 87th. Viking U19 responded with changes at halftime, in the 63rd, 77th and 87th minutes. The substitutions allowed Viking U19 to slow the tempo and keep fresh legs on the field as Bayern U19 chased the game.

Viking U19’s substitutions included Duracak E. at halftime, Al-Mabhouh N. in the 63rd minute, Frimpong and Middelthon J. in the 77th, and Johansen M. in the 87th. Bayern U19 brought on Moumouni R. at halftime, Binder T. in the 60th, Daiber D. and Gashi Y. in the 70th, and Osmani E. in the 87th. The changes did not alter the scoreline.

The win gave Viking U19 a 1-0 record in the competition and a 1-0 record across all competitions. Bayern U19 fell to 0-1 in the competition and 1-1 across all competitions. Bayern U19 had entered after a six-goal performance against Jahn Regensburg Under 19, but the visiting attack was held scoreless.

Viking U19’s defense limited Bayern U19’s chances after the second goal, and the home side managed the final half-hour with a series of substitutions. The yellow card to Tveiten in stoppage time was the final notable event of a match that Viking U19 controlled after the interval. Bayern U19 could not find a late consolation goal despite pushing more players forward.

Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Bayern U19 1, Viking U19 0, and Interstat’s ELO system had projected Bayern U19 with an 83.7 percent probability to win. Instead, Viking U19 scored twice without reply and closed out the 2-0 result.
