Real Unión, Mirandés play to dramatic 2‑2 draw in Irún
IRÚN, Spain (Interstat) — Luca Sangalli scored in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time as Real Unión rallied for a 2-2 draw against Mirandés in a Primera Federación Femenina match Saturday at Estadio Gal.
The visitors controlled portions of the first half and took a 1-0 lead just after the hour mark. Before that, the opening 45 minutes produced no goals but did produce three yellow cards, setting a combative tone. Mirandés’s Aritz Arambarri was booked in the 21st minute, Ricardo de Moraes followed in the 35th and Real Unión’s Gaizka Martínez was cautioned in the 44th. The teams went into halftime level at 0-0.
Mirandés had taken the lead in the 64th minute when Aitor Uzkudun found the net. Real Unión answered two minutes later through Unai Medina, leveling the match at 1-1. Mirandés moved back in front in the 75th minute when Ricardo de Moraes scored, but Sangalli’s late finish rescued the draw for the home side.
The second half opened with more urgency. Mirandés broke through in the 64th minute when Aitor Uzkudun scored. The lead lasted only two minutes, as Unai Medina answered for Real Unión in the 66th minute. Ricardo de Moraes restored Mirandés’s advantage in the 75th minute, and for much of the closing stretch it appeared that goal might be enough. Sangalli had other ideas, scoring in the 90th minute plus five to make it 2-2.
Uzkudun, a Mirandés forward, played 80 minutes and was booked. Ricardo de Moraes, a Mirandés midfielder, also played 80 minutes, scored and received a yellow card. Sangalli, a Real Unión midfielder, went the full 90 minutes and scored. Medina, a Real Unión defender, also played 90 minutes and scored.
Mirandés finished with four yellow cards. Aritz Arambarri was cautioned in the 21st minute, Ricardo de Moraes in the 35th, Aitor Uzkudun in the 57th and Miguel Auría in the 70th. Real Unión received two yellow cards, with Gaizka Martínez booked in the 44th minute and Aitor Galarza in the seventh minute of second-half stoppage time. The match grew increasingly physical as both sides pushed for a winner, but neither could add another goal after Sangalli’s late strike.
The draw left both teams with matching records of two wins, one loss and one draw in the Primera Federación Femenina and in all competitions. Mirandés had entered after a 4-3 win at Mérida on Sept. 12, a 2-0 home win over Ourense on Sept. 5 and a 1-0 loss at CP Cacereño on Aug. 28. Real Unión had lost 3-2 at RC Ferrol on Sept. 13, won 4-2 at Unionistas on Sept. 5 and beaten Coria 4-1 at home on Aug. 30.
Real Unión pressed for a late equalizer and found it when Sangalli converted in the 95th minute, capping a back-and-forth contest at Estadio Gal. The home side had trailed twice but responded each time, first through Medina and then through Sangalli. Mirandés, which had taken the lead through Uzkudun and Moraes, could not hold on for the victory. The result extended the symmetry between the clubs in the early part of the season, with both now level on record after four matches.
Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Real Unión 1, Mirandés 0, and its ELO system had given Real Unión a 65.3 percent probability to win. The actual match instead ended level after Sangalli’s stoppage-time goal. Mirandés’s two goals and Sangalli’s late response overturned that forecast and produced the draw.
