Gillingham strikes late to shut out Bristol Rovers
GILLINGHAM, United Kingdom (Interstat) — Gillingham scored three unanswered goals and defeated Bristol Rovers 3-0 in an English League Two match Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, at Priestfield Stadium. James Brophy gave the home side the lead in the 55th minute, and Sheldon Kendall scored twice in the closing minutes to secure the victory. Bristol Rovers were held without a goal and could not recover after falling behind in the second half.
The teams were scoreless at halftime. Brophy broke the deadlock 10 minutes into the second half, finishing a move that put Gillingham in front. Brophy, a midfielder, played the full 90 minutes and scored once. Kendall, a forward, entered as a substitute and needed only seven minutes to score twice. Kendall found the net in the 85th minute to double the advantage, then added another goal in the 89th minute. The two late strikes ended any hope Bristol Rovers had of taking a result from the road match.
The match remained tight into the second half before Brophy broke through. Bristol Rovers tried to respond but struggled to create a finishing touch. The visitors also picked up two yellow cards during a seven-minute span. Ellis Harrison was booked in the 65th minute, and Kofi Balmer was shown a yellow card in the 68th.
