Guingamp vs Pau

GUINGAMP, France (Interstat) — Guingamp will host Pau at Stade du Roudourou on Thursday in a Ligue 2 matchup between sides looking to steady their seasons.

Guingamp enters 3-4-2 across all competitions, while Pau is 2-3-2 across all competitions. The home side has shown flashes of form but has also been prone to uneven results. Most recently, Guingamp fell 1-0 at Nancy. Before that, Guingamp beat Le Mans 2-1 at home, part of a run that also included a 2-1 home win over Annecy, a 2-2 draw at Reims, a 3-3 home draw with Nantes, a 1-0 loss at Sochaux, a 1-0 home win over Boulogne and a 2-1 loss at Metz. Guingamp’s other defeats this season include a 3-1 home setback against Red Star. The club will look to use its home ground to create chances and control the tempo against a Pau side that has been competitive but inconsistent.

Pau arrives after a 2-0 home win over Dunkerque. Abdoulaye Mbaye scored in 24 minutes, while Gaëtan Paquiez and Tom Pouilly each played 90 minutes in the result. That victory followed a 1-0 loss at Montpellier, a 1-1 home draw with Sochaux, a 2-2 draw at Rodez, a 1-0 home loss to Nancy, a 1-0 win at Dijon FCO and a 1-0 home loss to Annecy. Pau has scored in several of its matches but has also been held scoreless in multiple defeats, making its ability to finish chances an important factor on the road.

Both clubs have busy schedules ahead. Pau’s upcoming slate includes matches against Grenoble, Metz, Nantes, Red Star, Boulogne, St Etienne, Clermont, Reims and Stade Lavallois Mayenne FC. Pau will also play Nantes twice in its next 10 games. Guingamp is set to face Pau, Clermont, St Etienne, Dunkerque, Rodez, Grenoble, Dijon FCO, Montpellier and Stade Lavallois Mayenne FC in its next stretch of fixtures. The meeting at Stade du Roudourou is the first of those for Guingamp, while Pau will be seeking to build on its most recent home performance before returning to a demanding run of Ligue 2 play.

Guingamp’s home advantage and slightly stronger overall record could shape the match, though Pau’s recent result offers reason for confidence. The visitors will need to manage Guingamp’s pressure and make the most of any chances. Guingamp, meanwhile, will aim to avoid another inconsistent result and take points in front of its supporters.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of Guingamp 2, Pau 1. Interstat’s ELO system gives Guingamp a 66.4 percent probability to win.
