Portsmouth, Blackburn Rovers play to 2‑2 draw at Fratton Park
PORTSMOUTH, England (Interstat) — Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers FC played to a 2-2 draw in a Championship match at Fratton Park on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, as the home side twice answered Blackburn’s goals but could not find a late winner. The visitors took a brief second-half lead before Portsmouth equalized in the 74th minute. The match was part of the Championship schedule in England.
Portsmouth started quickly when midfielder Zak Swanson scored in the fourth minute. Swanson played the full 90 minutes and later received a yellow card in the 89th minute. Blackburn Rovers responded in the 11th minute through forward Oladapo Afolayan, who scored during a 69-minute appearance. The first half also produced yellow cards for Portsmouth’s Marlon Pack in the 40th minute and Blackburn’s Tom Atcheson in the 47th minute. The teams went into halftime level at 1-1.
Blackburn Rovers moved ahead in the 56th minute when defender Ryōya Morishita scored after playing all 90 minutes. Morishita’s goal gave the visitors a 2-1 lead. Portsmouth continued to press and found an equalizer in the 74th minute through Colby Bishop. Bishop’s goal restored parity and set up a tense final stretch at Fratton Park. Neither side managed another breakthrough, and Swanson’s late booking added to the physical nature of the contest.
Swanson’s performance was among the key contributions for Portsmouth. He scored, completed the full match and was booked. Afolayan’s first-half goal was important for Blackburn Rovers, while Morishita’s second-half strike briefly put the visitors in position to take all three points. Blackburn’s attack also benefited from the timing of Afolayan’s equalizer, which erased Portsmouth’s early momentum. Portsmouth’s defense, meanwhile, had to respond after falling behind and eventually did through Bishop.
The result moved Blackburn Rovers FC to 2 wins, 3 losses and 3 draws in the Championship this season. Its record across all competitions also stands at 2 wins, 3 losses and 3 draws. Portsmouth moved to 2 wins, 3 losses and 2 draws in the Championship, with the same record across all competitions.
