AR-RAYYAN, Qatar (Interstat) — Al Gharafa SC opened the Stars League season with a 2-1 win over Al Shahaniya on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, at Khalifa International Stadium.

Frank Magri scored both goals for Al Gharafa, heading the home side ahead in the 23rd minute before converting with his right foot in the second minute of second-half stoppage time. Al Shahaniya scored once between Magri’s goals but could not prevent defeat.

Yellow cards went to Muniesa in the 32nd minute, Mohamed Sayyar in the 37th, Ferjani Sassi in the 40th and Khalifa Ababacar in first-half stoppage time.

With the victory, Al Gharafa improved to 1-0 in the Stars League and in all competitions. Al Shahaniya, which opened the campaign on the road, dropped to 0-1 in league play and across all competitions. Al Gharafa next faces Al Shamal SC on Aug. 26, while Al Shahaniya hosts Al Sailiya SC on Aug. 28.
