AC Milan vs Cagliari
MILAN (Interstat) — AC Milan hosts Cagliari on Sunday in a Serie A match at San Siro, with both teams looking to build on victories from the previous weekend.
Milan (May 17) defeated Genoa 2-1 on the road, while Cagliari (May 17) beat visiting Torino 2-1. The teams last met Jan. 2, when Milan won 1-0 in Cagliari.
Milan enters with a mixed record. Since that Jan. 2 win, Milan has alternated results. The Rossoneri lost to Udinese 3-0 on April 11, then beat ASD Brusaporto 4-0 in a Coppa Italia match on April 12. A 1-0 win at Verona on April 19 was followed by a 1-0 loss at home to Varesina on April 19. Milan then beat Castellanzese 3-1 and lost to Juventus 1-0 on April 26. On May 3, Milan lost 2-0 at Sassuolo but routed AVC Vogherese 1919 10-1 in a cup match. On May 10, Milan lost 2-1 at AC ChievoVerona and 3-2 at home to Atalanta. The May 17 win at Genoa broke a two-game losing streak.
Cagliari’s form has been erratic. After the Jan. 2 loss to Milan, Cagliari drew 1-1 at Parma on Feb. 27, then lost 2-1 at Como on March 7, 3-1 at Pisa on March 15, and 1-0 at home to Napoli on March 20. A 2-1 loss at Sassuolo on April 4 was followed by a 1-0 win at US Cremonese on April 11. Cagliari lost 3-0 at Inter Milan on April 17, then beat Atalanta 3-2 at home on April 27. A 0-0 draw at Bologna on May 3 preceded a 2-0 home loss to Udinese on May 9. The May 17 win over Torino ended a two-match winless streak.
Cagliari’s only Serie A win in its last seven matches (excluding cup) is the Atalanta result. Milan has won three of its last five league matches, though losses to Sassuolo, ChievoVerona and Atalanta have hurt their standing.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 2-1 win for AC Milan.
Kickoff is Sunday at San Siro.
