MANAMA, Bahrain (Interstat) — Ali Al Asfoor’s header in the 11th minute lifted Sitra to a 1-0 victory over Malkiya on Saturday at Al Ahli Stadium in a Bahrain Premier League match. Sitra improved to 7-8-5 in league play and 7-9-5 across all competitions. Malkiya fell to 7-6-5 in the league and 7-7-5 overall. The teams had played to a scoreless draw in their previous meeting Jan. 10. Malkiya entered having won three of its last four league games, including a 4-0 victory at Bahrain SC on May 3 and a 3-0 home win over Al Najma on Apr. 28. Malkiya also had recorded three consecutive clean sheets. Sitra had split its previous two contests, beating A’ali CSC 2-0 on Apr. 27 before losing 3-1 to Al Khaldiya SC on Apr. 18. The result left both teams with seven league wins, though Sitra had played two more matches. Malkiya’s loss was its first in league play since March 14, a span of eight games. Sitra has won two straight matches across all competitions.
