Wiliete vs Luanda City

LUANDA, Angola (Interstat) — Wiliete hosts Luanda City on Sunday, May 17, in a Girabola clash that pits the league’s red-hot home side against a visiting team desperate to reverse a slump.

Wiliete enters the match having lost just once in its past 10 league outings, a streak that includes a 5-0 demolition of Luanda City on Feb. 1. The home team most recently defeated Kabuscorp 2-1 on May 10. That result extended a stretch in which Wiliete has collected eight wins and two draws since February, outscoring opponents 22-7 over that span. Wiliete’s only defeat in the last three months came March 14 against Petro de Luanda, a 1-1 draw that counted as a league point.

Luanda City, meanwhile, has struggled. The visiting side has lost four of its past five matches, managing just one goal in that stretch. On May 10, Luanda City fell 2-0 at home to Bravos do Maquis. That followed a scoreless draw against Sagrada Esperanca on May 6 and a 2-1 loss to Desportivo Huila on May 3. The team’s lone bright spot in recent weeks came April 17, a 1-0 victory over 1º de Maio. Otherwise, Luanda City has been outscored 11-2 in its past four contests, including a 6-0 thrashing at Petro de Luanda on April 25.

The head-to-head record strongly favors Wiliete. The Feb. 1 result was a five-goal rout, and Wiliete has not lost to Luanda City in any of their past three meetings. Overall, Wiliete’s defense has been formidable, recording four clean sheets in its last six games.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Wiliete 2, Luanda City 0. The same analysis, using a modified ELO rating system, gives Wiliete a 91.80 percent probability of winning. Luanda City’s probability stands at 8.20 percent, with a draw considered negligible.

Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday at a venue to be confirmed in Angola’s capital. Wiliete will aim to solidify its position near the top of the Girabola table, while Luanda City looks to halt a slide that has seen it drop into the lower half of the standings.
