RISHON LEZION, Israel (Interstat) — Wilinton Aponzá and Dor Jan each scored to lift Maccabi Herzliya to a 2-1 victory over Hap Rish LeZion on Friday at Haberfeld Stadium in a Liga Leumit match. Aponzá opened the scoring in the 37th minute. Paz Shifman equalized for the home side in the 41st minute. Jan netted the winner in the 50th minute. The three goals came in a 13-minute span from the 37th to the 50th minute. Hap Rish LeZion pushed for an equalizer over the final 40 minutes but could not break through. Maccabi Herzliya improved to 1-0 in league play and overall. Hap Rish LeZion fell to 0-1 in both competitions. The match was the season opener for both clubs in Israel’s second division. The victory gave the visitors an early edge in the standings.
