STROVOLOS, Cyprus (Interstat) — Filipe da Vieira scored in the 90th minute to give AE Olympiakos Lefkosias a 1-0 victory over Anorthosis on Friday afternoon in a Cyprus 1. Division match at Neo GSP.

The match marked the season opener for both teams. AE Olympiakos earned its first win in league play and all competitions, moving to 1-0. Anorthosis dropped to 0-1 in the league and overall after the defeat.

The game remained scoreless for the first 89 minutes as both defenses held firm. Da Vieira, a midfielder, broke the deadlock with a volley from close range after a corner kick, beating the Anorthosis goalkeeper just before the final whistle and sparking celebrations among the home supporters at the 22,000-seat venue.

Anorthosis had the better of the early chances but failed to convert. As the match wore on, AE Olympiakos pressed forward and finally broke through in stoppage time. Anorthosis, playing its first match of the season, struggled to create clear chances.
