Catanzaro vs Avellino

CATANZARO, Italy (Interstat) — Catanzaro hosts Avellino on Tuesday in a Serie B matchup that carries playoff implications for both sides, with the latest head-to-head meetings offering little separation.

The teams played to a 1-1 draw on April 11 in Avellino, the most recent of two meetings this season. In December, Catanzaro won 1-0 at home.

Entering Tuesday’s game, Avellino has alternated results. The visitors lost 1-0 at Empoli on May 1, then beat Bari 2-0 on April 24 and won 2-0 at Mantova on April 18. Avellino’s only other loss in its past six matches was a 2-0 defeat at Palermo on April 5. Overall, Avellino is 5-4-1 in its last 10 league games, with the lone draw coming against Catanzaro.

Catanzaro has been less consistent. The home side lost 3-2 at Palermo on May 1, ending a three-match unbeaten run (one win, two draws). Before that, Catanzaro beat Spezia 4-2 on April 25, drew 1-1 at Juve Stabia on April 18 and drew 2-2 at home against Modena on April 14. Over its last 10, Catanzaro is 3-4-3, including a win over then-league leader Empoli in March.

The teams are separated by a single point in the Serie B standings, with Catanzaro holding the slight edge. Both sides have struggled to create clear chances in head-to-head play: the past two meetings produced a combined three goals.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 1-1 draw, a result that would likely leave the playoff race unchanged. Catanzaro’s home form has been solid, but Avellino’s defense has allowed only two goals in its last four road matches.

Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. local time at Stadio Nicola Ceravolo.
