Osasuna vs Espanyol

PAMPLONA, Spain (Interstat) — Espanyol defeated Osasuna 2-1 on Sunday at Estadio El Sadar, spoiling the home side’s season opener in La Liga.

Espanyol, playing its first league match of the campaign, grabbed the lead in the 27th minute when substitute Carlos Romero scored. The forward capitalized on a buildup that included a pass from substitute Pol Lozano. Osasuna fought back early in the second half, as forward Víctor Muñoz leveled the score in the 49th minute with an assist from midfielder Iker Muñoz.

But the visitors restored their advantage just four minutes later. Substitute Kike García found the net in the 53rd minute, with substitute Antoniu providing the assist. That goal proved decisive as neither side scored again despite late pressure from both teams.

The match featured three yellow cards. Espanyol’s Pol Lozano was booked in the 11th minute. Osasuna’s Iker Muñoz received a caution in the 83rd minute, and Antoniu was shown a yellow card in the 90th minute.

For Espanyol, the victory gave the club a 1-0 record in La Liga and across all competitions. Romero, who entered as a substitute, delivered the opening goal and was among the key contributors. Víctor Muñoz, starting as a forward, provided the equalizer. García, also a substitute, netted the winner. Antoniu and Lozano each recorded an assist, as did the booked Iker Muñoz.

Osasuna fell to 0-1 in the league and in all competitions. The home side, supported by the crowd at the stadium in Pamplona, could not overcome the quick response from Espanyol. The defeat leaves Osasuna searching for its first points of the season.

The game was part of the opening weekend of the La Liga season. Both teams will look to build on their performances in the coming weeks. Espanyol aims to extend its winning start, while Osasuna will attempt to rebound with a result in its next fixture.

In the final moments, Osasuna pressed forward but failed to create a clear chance to equalize. Espanyol’s defense held firm, and the visitors secured the three points on the road.

The winning goal by García came after a swift counterattack. Antoniu, who had come off the bench, played a through ball that split the Osasuna defense. García finished calmly past the goalkeeper.

Before the match, Interstat’s game simulator projected a 1-1 draw. Interstat’s ELO system gave Osasuna a 68.50 percent probability to win. The actual result defied those projections, as Espanyol outperformed expectations with its determined display.
