Club Brugge vs Sint-Truiden

BRUGGE, Belgium (Interstat) — Nicolò Tresoldi and Carlos Forbs each scored a goal Saturday to lead Club Brugge to a 2-0 victory over Sint-Truiden in First Division A action at Jan Breydelstadion.

Tresoldi opened the scoring in the 13th minute, converting a chance that put the home side ahead early. Forbs doubled the lead in the 52nd minute, with a finish that gave the visitors little hope of a comeback. Sint-Truiden failed to score for the first time in four matches.

The match was marked by discipline issues. Sint-Truiden’s Ryan Merlen was sent off in the 63rd minute after receiving a red card, leaving his team a man down for the final 27 minutes plus stoppage time. Club Brugge’s Shōgo Taniguchi received a yellow card in the 77th minute.

The victory improved Club Brugge’s record across all competitions to 20 wins, eight losses and five draws. In league play, the team holds the same mark. Sint-Truiden dropped to 19 wins, 11 losses and four draws overall, with an identical league record.

The win extended Club Brugge’s recent edge in the series. The teams have met four times this season across all competitions, with Club Brugge winning three and Sint-Truiden winning one. In the previous three head-to-head games, Club Brugge won 2-1 on April 11, lost 3-2 on Dec. 6, 2025, and won 2-0 on Sept. 21, 2025.

Sint-Truiden entered the match having won three of its previous four games. The team defeated Union St-Gilloise 2-1 on May 2, beat Mechelen 4-1 on April 26 and topped Anderlecht 2-0 on April 23. The only setback in that stretch was a scoreless draw at Gent on April 19.

Club Brugge came in with three wins in its last four contests. The team beat Anderlecht 3-1 on May 3, defeated Gent 2-0 on April 26 and routed Mechelen 6-1 on April 22. The lone loss in that span was a 2-1 defeat at Union St-Gilloise on April 19.

Sint-Truiden’s loss was its second consecutive defeat against Club Brugge in league play this season. The team had earlier beaten Club Brugge 3-2 at home in December but fell 2-1 at home in April before Saturday’s shutout loss.

The match was played in sunny conditions at Jan Breydelstadion, with no attendance figures released. Club Brugge controlled possession for much of the contest, though Sint-Truiden created several second-half chances before Merlen’s red card disrupted their momentum.

For Club Brugge, the win continued a strong run of form that has seen the team win seven of its last nine matches across all competitions. The team’s only losses during that stretch were a 2-1 setback at Union St-Gilloise and a 1-0 defeat at home to Kampong Speu Province on Nov. 30, 2025.

Sint-Truiden’s defeat snapped a three-game unbeaten streak in league play. The team had not lost since a 1-0 defeat at Union St-Gilloise on April 4, a span of five matches across all competitions.

The result left Sint-Truiden with 19 wins on the season, matching its league win total. The team has scored 48 goals in league play this season, though it was held scoreless for the first time since a 1-0 loss at Union St-Gilloise on April 4.

Club Brugge has now scored two or more goals in eight of its last nine matches. The team’s defense recorded its fourth clean sheet in the last seven games.

The match marked the second time this season that Sint-Truiden has been shut out by Club Brugge, following a 2-0 loss on Sept. 21, 2025. Sint-Truiden has been held scoreless in two of its four meetings with Club Brugge this campaign.

Tresoldi’s goal was his 12th of the season across all competitions, while Forbs’ goal was his ninth. Neither player recorded an assist on the other’s goal, according to official statistics.
