USM Alger vs ES Mostaganem

ALGIERS, Algeria (Interstat) — USM Alger will host ES Mostaganem on Tuesday in an Algerian Ligue 1 matchup that pits a side riding high from a continental victory against a team mired in a deep slide.

USM Alger enters the contest after a 1-0 win over Egyptian side Zamalek SC in an international friendly on Saturday, a result that snapped a three-match losing streak in all competitions. Prior to that, USM Alger had dropped league games to ASO Chlef (2-1), MC Alger (1-0) and Kabylie (1-0), highlighting an inconsistent spring. The club’s form has been unpredictable: it owns a 2-0 win over ES Setif on March 18 but also a 2-1 loss at Saoura on Feb. 21. Overall, USM Alger has lost six of its last 10 league matches.

ES Mostaganem, meanwhile, is in freefall. The visitors have lost five consecutive league fixtures, including a 2-0 defeat at Guir Abadla on Sunday and a 4-0 thrashing at home by Saoura on May 7. In that stretch, ES Mostaganem has been outscored 16-1, with its only goal coming in a 3-2 loss at Paradou AC on March 17. The team has not won since Jan. 23, when it edged Oued Akbou 1-0. Five of its last six defeats have been by multiple goals, and it has managed just one clean sheet all season.

The head-to-head history offers ES Mostaganem a sliver of hope. The two sides played to a 2-2 draw on Nov. 17 in Mostaganem, a match in which the hosts rallied from a goal down twice. That result extended USM Alger’s unbeaten run against ES Mostaganem to three games, though the record is otherwise evenly matched.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 1-1 draw, a scoreline that would reflect USM Alger’s recent offensive struggles — it has scored more than one goal only twice in its last 10 league outings — and ES Mostaganem’s inability to keep opponents off the board. The simulation favors a low-scoring affair, though USM Alger’s home advantage and momentum from the Zamalek win could tilt the balance.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. local time at Stade Omar Hamadi in Algiers. USM Alger will next travel to USM Khenchela on May 12, while ES Mostaganem will look to snap its skid against a team that has outscored opponents 23-4 in its last five wins this season.
