AP Sports Preview
PARAMARIBO, Suriname (Interstat) — Inter Moengotapoe, fresh off a nine-goal outburst, hosts Voorwaarts on Sunday in a key Eerste Divisie matchup at a venue to be determined.
Inter Moengotapoe (7-2-2 in its last 11 matches) enters the 4 p.m. local time kickoff following a 9-0 romp over Flora on May 3. Forward play sparked the attack, with multiple players finding the net in the dominant performance. The victory snapped a two-match winless streak that included a 0-0 draw against Leo Victor on April 29 and a 2-1 loss to SV Robinhood on April 25.
Voorwaarts (4-4-3 across its last 11 outings) arrives after a 1-0 defeat to SV Robinhood on May 2. The loss continued a pattern of tight results for the visitors, who have scored just one goal in their past two matches. Voorwaarts managed a 2-2 draw with Flora on April 18 before blanking Inter Wanica 4-0 on April 4.
The head-to-head series has been closely contested. Inter Moengotapoe owns a 1-0-2 record in the past three meetings. The teams played to a 0-0 draw Feb. 8, with Inter Moengotapoe winning 1-0 the previous day. Their Dec. 7, 2025, meeting ended 1-1.
Inter Moengotapoe’s recent form shows consistency. In addition to the Flora blowout, the club posted clean-sheet victories against Inter Wanica (4-0 on March 28) and Flora (3-1 on Feb. 22). However, losses to SV Robinhood (3-1 on Feb. 14) and Leo Victor (3-1 on March 8) exposed defensive vulnerabilities.
Voorwaarts has struggled for consistency. After a 6-2 win over Flora on March 7, the team lost 3-0 to SV Broki on March 29. The club’s best stretch came in late January and early February, when it went unbeaten in three matches, including two against Inter Moengotapoe.
The Interstat game simulator projects a 2-1 victory for Inter Moengotapoe.
Both teams will meet again Wednesday in the return fixture at Voorwaarts’ home ground, adding significance to Sunday’s result for positioning in the Surinamese league standings.
