AP Sports Preview

VARNA, Bulgaria (Interstat) — FK Spartak 1918 Varna hosts Dobrudzha 1919 on Wednesday, May 6, in a Bulgarian First League matchup at Stadion Spartak. The two sides enter the contest heading in opposite directions, with Spartak looking to rebound from a narrow defeat and Dobrudzha seeking to halt a three-match losing streak.

The teams split their two previous meetings this season. Spartak won 1-0 at home on April 10, with Dobrudzha failing to score for the fifth time in six visits to Varna. Dobrudzha responded with a 2-0 home victory on Nov. 1, 2025. Wednesday’s match will be the third and final regular-season encounter.

Spartak (wins-losses-draws: 8-12-6) enters after a 2-1 loss at FK Botev Vratsa on Saturday, May 2. The defeat snapped a brief two-match unbeaten run that included a 0-0 draw at Septemvri Sofia and the 1-0 home win over Dobrudzha. Spartak has struggled offensively, scoring only once in its last five league matches. Its defense has been porous away from home but firmer at Stadion Spartak, where it has recorded four clean sheets this season.

Dobrudzha (7-13-6) arrives in poor form, having lost three straight: 3-0 at home to Lokomotiv 1929 on May 1, 3-0 at home to PFK Botev Plovdiv on April 14, and the 1-0 defeat at Spartak. The team has scored just one goal in its past four matches, a 2-2 draw with PFK Levski Sofia on April 5. Dobrudzha has not won since a 1-0 victory over PFK Beroe Stara Zagora on March 8. Its away record is mixed: 3-7-3, with three shutout losses on the road.

Historically, matches between these clubs have been tight. The last five head-to-head contests have produced no more than two total goals, and three have ended 1-0. Spartak has held Dobrudzha scoreless in three of the past four meetings.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 1-1 draw, a result that would extend Spartak’s home unbeaten streak against Dobrudzha to three matches. A win for either side would provide a crucial boost in the mid-table battle, with both teams potentially finishing the matchday within striking distance of the top six.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. local time.
