Equity Bank vs Nairobi City Stars
NAIROBI, Kenya (Interstat) — Equity Bank looks to extend its strong run of form when it hosts Nairobi City Stars on Sunday, May 3, in a Kenyan Super League match at a venue to be announced.
Equity Bank enters the weekend after a 4-0 victory over Vihiga United on April 26, its seventh win in its last 11 matches dating to late February. The banking club’s only defeat during that span came March 7, when Mombasa United FC beat it 3-0. With six clean sheets over that stretch, Equity Bank’s defense has been stingy.
Nairobi City Stars, by contrast, are struggling. They fell 2-1 at Soy United on April 26 — their sixth loss in 10 league games. The visitors have only two wins since late February: a 3-2 victory over Fortune Sacco on Feb. 21 and a 1-0 result at Mwatate United on March 7.
The most recent head-to-head meeting Dec. 12 went to Nairobi City Stars, which won 2-0 at home. That victory was part of a trend: the Stars have won three of the last four matchups, though Equity Bank claimed a 1-0 win in their previous meeting before that.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a tight affair, with a final score of Equity Bank 1, Nairobi City Stars 0.
The home side has been particularly strong lately, keeping three clean sheets in its past four outings. Equity Bank’s attack has also been efficient, scoring at least once in eight of 11 matches. Forward Michael Olunga FA held them to a scoreless draw on April 18, but otherwise the team has found the net consistently.
Nairobi City Stars will need to improve on the road, where they have lost their last three away games, including a 1-0 defeat at Kisumu All Stars on April 12. They have scored only three goals in their past seven matches, and their leading scorers have been largely held in check.
The match carries significance for both sides in the Super League standings. Equity Bank is pushing for a top-four finish, while Nairobi City Stars are trying to climb away from the relegation zone.
After Sunday’s game, Nairobi City Stars play at Mombasa United FC on May 9, while Equity Bank’s next fixture has not yet been released.
Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. local time.
