CASABLANCA (Interstat) — Hakim Ziyech scored two goals, both off free kicks, powering Wydad Athletic to a 2-0 victory over Omnisports Meknes on Wednesday in Botola Pro action at Stade Mohamed V.

Ziyech, a midfielder, opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a curling free kick that beat the Meknes goalkeeper. He added his second goal in the second half, again from a dead-ball situation. The two goals marked the first goals of the season for Wydad in league play.

Defender Sallah Moussaddaq, forward Hamza El Wasti and substitute Mohamed Zinaf each recorded an assist on the goals. Moussaddaq and El Wasti also received yellow cards during the match, along with Zinaf.

The discipline issues mounted for Wydad, as Moussaddaq was cautioned in the 88th minute, El Wasti in the 77th and Zinaf in the 34th. No players from Omnisports Meknes were booked.

The victory gave Wydad Athletic a 1-0 record in Botola Pro competition this season, while Omnisports Meknes fell to 0-1. Across all competitions, Wydad improved to 1-3 overall, with the lone win coming against the Moroccan side. Meknes dropped to 0-1 across all competitions.

Wydad entered the match after a difficult stretch in international club competitions. The side lost 2-1 to Al Ain FC on June 26, 2025, then fell 4-1 to Juventus on June 22, 2025, and lost 2-0 to Manchester City on June 18, 2025.

Omnisports Meknes, playing its first league match of the season, struggled to generate offense against a disciplined Wydad defense and was held without a shot on goal in the opening half. The visitors rarely threatened in the second half despite Wydad’s midfield dominance.

The match drew a sizable crowd at Stade Mohamed V, a Casablanca landmark and the traditional home of Wydad Athletic.
