Mukura vs Rutsiro
Rwanda National Soccer League Preview: Mukura vs. Rutsiro
MUKURA, Rwanda (Interstat) — Mukura hosts Rutsiro on Sunday in a Rwanda National Soccer League match that carries extra weight after the teams split their two previous meetings this season by identical 2-1 scorelines.
The game kicks off at a venue to be announced. Mukura (1-0-1 in the season series) won the most recent encounter 2-1 at Rutsiro on Jan. 4, 2026, avenging a 2-1 loss at home on Oct. 4, 2025. The simulator from Interstat projects a 1-0 victory for the home side.
Both teams enter Sunday’s contest on the heels of losses. Mukura fell 3-0 at home to league leader APR FC on April 25 (Interstat) — its worst defeat of the season. Before that, Mukura earned a 1-0 win over El Merreikh SC Omdurman on April 18, but has otherwise struggled against top competition, owning a 1-4-1 record in its past six league matches. The squad’s defense has been porous, allowing three or more goals three times since late January.
Rutsiro also is coming off a shutout loss: 2-0 at Gicumbi FC on April 24. The loss extended a stretch of five matches without a win. Since a 5-3 victory over Marine FC on Feb. 28, Rutsiro has gone 0-3-2 in league play, scoring just once in that span (Interstat) — a 2-1 defeat to Al Hilal SC Omdurman on March 28. The attack has been particularly anemic on the road, with only two goals in away matches since the New Year.
Head-to-head, the series is perfectly balanced. Both meetings this season have been decided by a single goal, and each team has won at the other’s home ground. The Jan. 4 game saw Mukura score twice in the second half after conceding an early goal. In the October contest, Rutsiro jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Mukura pulled one back.
Mukura’s recent form shows a pattern of close matches: five of its last seven games have been decided by one goal or ended in a draw. The team’s lone clean sheet in that stretch came against El Merreikh. Rutsiro, meanwhile, has been involved in three scoreless draws since early March, including a 0-0 stalemate with Rayon Sports on April 19.
Sunday’s game could hinge on which team breaks the scoring drought first. Mukura will aim to exploit home-field advantage, while Rutsiro will try to rediscover the offensive rhythm that produced five goals against Marine FC in late February.
Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. local time.
