Marquense vs Xelaju
SAN MARCOS, Guatemala (Interstat) — Widvin Tebalan scored in the 48th minute and Diego Casas added a goal in the 59th minute as Xelaju and Marquense played to a 1-1 draw Thursday night in a Liga Nacional match at Estadio Marquesa de la Ensenada.
The result left Xelaju with a 21-20-14 record this season across all competitions, including the same mark in league play. Marquense moved to 12-19-10 overall and in the league.
Tebalan’s goal came early in the second half, and Casas equalized 11 minutes later. Neither team found the net after that, settling for the draw.
Xelaju entered the match on a two-game winning streak, having defeated Coban Imperial 2-1 on April 26 and Achuapa 3-0 on April 16. Prior to that, Xelaju had lost 3-1 at Mixco on April 11 and fallen 1-0 at home to Xinabajul on April 11 in a match that was part of a busy schedule. The team also played to a 1-1 draw with Coban Imperial on April 5. In its most recent meeting with Marquense before Thursday, Xelaju lost 1-0 on the road on April 1.
Marquense came into the match having won its previous outing, a 1-0 home victory over Comunicaciones on March 29. That win followed a 1-0 loss at Antigua GFC on March 23. Marquense also defeated Coban Imperial 3-1 on March 18 and Achuapa 2-1 on March 15. The team’s form had been erratic, with results including a 2-2 draw against Guastatoya on March 4 and a 1-0 loss to Municipal on Feb. 28.
The head-to-head series between the two clubs has been closely contested in recent meetings. In the previous four encounters, the home team won each time. Marquense won 1-0 at home on April 1 and again on Nov. 5, 2025. Xelaju won its home matches, 4-2 on Feb. 15, 2026, and 3-1 on Aug. 31, 2025. Thursday’s 1-1 result broke that pattern of home dominance.
Xelaju’s season includes a wide range of results. The team has struggled at times on the road but shown resilience at home. Highlights include a 4-0 win over Aurora on Jan. 20, a 3-1 victory at Comunicaciones on March 22, and a 3-1 win over Municipal on March 19. Low points include a 3-0 loss at Mixco, a 3-2 loss at Aurora on Nov. 16, 2025, and a 2-1 defeat at Coban Imperial on March 21.
Marquense’s campaign has been marked by inconsistency. The team has managed several one-goal wins, such as a 1-0 victory over Comunicaciones on Oct. 25, 2025, and a 1-0 decision against Mictlan on Sept. 6, 2025. But heavy losses have also occurred, including a 5-0 defeat at Guastatoya on Nov. 23, 2025, and a 3-0 loss to Coban Imperial on Oct. 19, 2025. Marquense also drew 1-1 with Antigua GFC on Jan. 31 and played Mictlan to a 1-1 draw on Nov. 8, 2025.
The match Thursday was the fourth meeting between the sides this season, with both teams now holding a win and a draw in those contests. The total goals in the four matches have been relatively low, with only one match exceeding three total goals. The Feb. 15 meeting featured six goals.
In terms of projections, Interstat’s game simulator had forecast a 1-1 final score. Interstat’s ELO system gave Marquense a 51.90 percent probability to win heading into the match. The draw outcome aligned with the simulator’s prediction but defied the slight edge given to the home side by the ELO model.
