Melbourne Victory vs Sydney

MELBOURNE, Australia (Interstat) — Melbourne Victory hosts Sydney FC in an A-League clash Saturday, with the teams meeting for the fourth time this season in a rivalry that has produced a pair of draws, a lopsided result for each side and a recent surge in form for the home team.

The two clubs enter the match at AAMI Park tied in the season series. Sydney won 3-0 on Nov. 22, 2025. Melbourne Victory responded with a 4-0 victory on Jan. 26, 2026. The most recent meeting, on March 7, ended in a 2-2 draw.

Sydney enters the weekend unbeaten in three matches but has drawn its past two. On April 26, Sydney played to a 2-2 stalemate at home against Auckland FC. That followed a scoreless draw April 18 against Perth Glory and a 2-0 win April 11 over Western Sydney Wanderers. Across its past six matches, Sydney has three draws, two wins and a loss — a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle Jets on March 21.

Melbourne Victory, by contrast, appears to be gaining momentum. It defeated Western Sydney Wanderers 2-0 on April 25, improving its record to 2-0-3 in its past five matches. The Victory drew 2-2 at Auckland FC on April 11 and played to a 2-2 tie at Newcastle Jets on April 17. The club has not lost in regulation in its past five outings, its last defeat coming April 5 in a 1-0 loss to Kampong Speu Province.

The Victory’s scoring output has been strong. In its past five matches, Melbourne has tallied eight goals while conceding six. Sydney has scored only three goals in its past five matches while allowing three.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 1-1 draw Saturday.

The matchup carries playoff implications for both clubs. Sydney sits in the upper half of the A-League table while Melbourne Victory, buoyed by its recent unbeaten run, looks to close the gap. With the season series so tightly contested, Saturday’s result could prove critical in determining final standings.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. local time. The match is expected to draw a capacity crowd as the historic rivals renew hostilities.
