CAMPOBASSO, Italy (Interstat) — Antonio Gala’s 64th-minute goal lifted Campobasso FC past Ascoli Calcio 1898 FC 1-0 on Sunday at Avicor Stadium Selvapiana in a Serie C match. Campobasso improved to 9-1-7 in the competition, while Ascoli fell to 12-5-4. The home side controlled much of the play and broke through when Gala finished from close range. Ascoli pressed late but could not equalize, with the Campobasso defense holding firm. The result ended a three-match unbeaten run for Ascoli, which had last lost Jan. 17 to Juventus Next Gen. Campobasso’s only defeat this season came March 9 against SS Arezzo. The teams had drawn 0-0 in their previous meeting Dec. 21. Ascoli’s offense struggled to generate clear chances against a disciplined back line. Gala’s goal was the lone score in a match that featured limited opportunities for both sides. Campobasso goalkeeper contributed several saves to preserve the clean sheet. The victory kept Campobasso in contention for a playoff spot in the third-tier league.
