Police XI vs Black Lions
GABORONE, Botswana (Interstat) — Police XI hosts Black Lions on Wednesday, May 6, in a Botswana Premier League matchup that pits a middling home side against a visiting team desperate to break a prolonged slump.
The two clubs played to a scoreless draw Nov. 15, 2025, in their most recent meeting. Police XI enters on a modest unbeaten run of two matches, while Black Lions have lost four of their last five.
Police XI (4-5-5, 17 points) last played April 12, a 0-0 draw at Galaxy. The result followed a 3-2 loss at Sua Flamingoes on April 4 and a 2-1 defeat at Botswana Defence Force XI on March 18. Before that, Police XI strung together a win and a draw: a 1-0 victory at Santa Green on March 11 and a 2-1 win at Nico United on March 5.
Overall, Police XI has been inconsistent, with three wins, four draws and three losses in their last 10 matches. Their home form has been mixed, but they have kept clean sheets in four of those games.
Black Lions (4-7-4, 16 points) showed life April 25 with a 2-1 victory over Calendar Stars FC. That snapped a four-match losing streak in which they scored just one goal. The skid began with a 1-0 loss at Centre Chiefs on April 11, followed by a 2-0 loss at Extension Gunners on March 17 and a 2-1 loss at home to TAFIC on March 14. They also drew 1-1 at Orapa United on March 7.
Before the Calendar Stars win, Black Lions had not won since Feb. 21, a 1-0 victory at Botswana Defence Force XI. The team has struggled offensively, scoring nine goals in 15 league matches while allowing 16.
Wednesday’s game marks the second of three meetings this season between the clubs. The draw in November came during a stretch in which both sides were finding their footing. Police XI has been slightly more reliable at the back, while Black Lions have shown vulnerability on the road, where they have lost four of their last six away matches.
Stat projections from Interstat’s game simulator favor Police XI 1-0, a result that would lift the home side into the top half of the table. Black Lions, currently 10th, could drop further with a loss.
Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. local time at the Police XI Stadium. The match is the only Premier League fixture scheduled for Wednesday.
