AP Sports Preview
DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania (Interstat) — Azam FC hosts Namungo on Tuesday, May 5, in a Ligi Kuu Bara matchup that pits a resurgent home side against a visiting team desperate to break a winless run.
Azam FC enters the contest riding momentum after a 3-0 victory at Mtibwa Sugar on Saturday, May 2. The win extended an undefeated stretch for Azam, which has not lost in its past seven matches. That streak includes four clean sheets and a stout defense that has conceded only one goal over the last four games.
Namungo, conversely, arrives in poor form. The visitors played to a scoreless draw at Dodoma Jiji on Friday, May 1, extending their winless run to 10 matches. Namungo has not won since a 1-0 victory over Kinondoni Municipal Council FC on Jan. 31. During the winless stretch, Namungo has been outscored 13-4, with losses to Simba (3-1), TRA United SC (2-0) and Young Africans SC (1-0).
The most recent head-to-head meeting, on Nov. 9, 2025, ended in a 1-1 draw at Namungo.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 1-0 victory for Azam FC.
Namungo will face a difficult test against an Azam side that has allowed just two goals in its past seven games. Azam’s defense, anchored by recent shutouts against JKT Tanzania (3-0) and Dodoma Jiji (3-0), has been a decisive factor. The team’s offense has also found rhythm, scoring multiple goals in four of the past five matches.
Namungo’s attack has struggled mightily, with only two goals in the last eight matches. The team has been shut out six times during its 10-game winless run.
Both teams face congested schedules ahead. Namungo plays TRA United SC on Wednesday, May 6, and Mashujaa FC on Friday, May 8. Azam FC travels to TRA United SC on Friday, May 8, before a key matchup at Young Africans SC on Thursday, May 14.
Kickoff is scheduled for Tuesday evening at Azam FC’s home ground.
