KOLOSSI, Cyprus (Interstat) — Michalis Ioannou scored in the 28th minute Monday as Anorthosis defeated Aris Lemesou 1-0 in a Cyprus 1. Division match at Alphamega Stadium.

The victory improved Anorthosis to 7-8-9 in league play and 8-9-9 across all competitions this season. Aris Lemesou dropped to 10-7-2 in the division and 13-8-3 overall.

The goal came when Ioannou found the net midway through the first half, providing the only scoring of the contest. Aris Lemesou failed to answer despite controlling possession for stretches.

Anorthosis entered the match having gone 2-2-1 in its previous five league fixtures, including a 1-1 draw with Omonia Aradippou on April 19. Aris Lemesou had won two of its last three, most recently a 2-1 victory over EN Paralimníou on April 17.

The result marked a reversal from the teams’ earlier meeting Oct. 4, when Aris Lemesou won 4-1 at home. Anorthosis now holds a 7-8-9 league record, while Aris Lemesou’s 10 wins keep it near the top of the standings. Both sides return to action in the coming week.
