Besancon Football vs ES Thaon
AP Sports Preview
BESANCON, France (Interstat) — Besancon Football will host ES Thaon on Saturday, April 25, 2026, in a National 3 fixture at a time still to be confirmed. The matchup comes as both clubs struggle for form in the lower tier of French football.
Besancon (0-4-5 in their last nine matches) enter the game searching for their first league victory since Feb. 21. The home side are coming off a 2-0 loss at FC Chalonnais on April 18, extending a winless run that includes three straight defeats. Besancon have managed only three goals in their last nine outings and have been shut out in four of those contests. Their only draw in that span came in a scoreless result at CA Pontarlier on April 11.
ES Thaon (1-3-6 in their last 10) have not fared much better. They played to a 0-0 draw at FC Mulhouse on April 18, snapping a five-game losing streak. Prior to that, Thaon had dropped five consecutive matches, including a 5-1 loss at Troyes on Feb. 14 and a 4-1 defeat at FC Sochaux-Montbeliard on Feb. 21. Their lone win since December came Jan. 31 — a 4-0 home victory over Saturday’s opponent, Besancon.
That result highlighted the recent head-to-head disparity. In their last meeting, ES Thaon dominated Besancon 4-0 on Jan. 31. The two sides have not played in Besancon since the 2023-24 season, though recent history suggests the home side will need a significant improvement.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 1-1 draw.
Following this match, Besancon will face RC Strasbourg Alsace 2 on Sunday, April 26, a quick turnaround for the home side.
Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday.
