Al Hazm vs Al Taawon

AP Sports Preview

AL HAZM, Saudi Arabia (Interstat) — Al Hazm hosts Al Taawon on Thursday in a Saudi Pro League match that pits two teams desperate to break free from recent inconsistency and lingering frustration.

Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. local time at Al Hazm Club Stadium.

The teams last met Jan. 22, playing to a 2-2 draw in Buraidah. That result extended a head-to-head streak of competitive, often tightly contested affairs. Interstat’s game simulator projects another deadlock, forecasting a 1-1 final score.

Al Taawon enters the match in a prolonged rut. The visitors have won just once in their last 10 league outings (Interstat) — a 3-2 victory over Al Fateh on March 6. Since then, Al Taawon has recorded five draws and four losses, including a 2-1 defeat to Al Ahli Saudi Club on May 11. That result followed a 2-1 loss to Al Kholood on April 11. Al Taawon’s other recent results include draws with Al Hilal (2-2 on April 4), NEOM SC (2-2 on March 12), Al Qadisiyah Saudi Club (1-1 on Feb. 28), Al Hilal again (1-1 on Feb. 24) and Al Khaleej (1-1 on Feb. 7). Losses to Al Fayha Saudi Club (3-2 on Feb. 20) and Damac Saudi Club (2-1 on Feb. 12) further underscore the team’s struggle to close out matches.

Al Hazm, meanwhile, has shown flashes of resilience but has been equally inconsistent. The home side’s most recent result was a 1-1 draw at NEOM SC on April 28, which followed a 2-0 win over Al Fayha Saudi Club on April 11. That victory was a rare bright spot in a season marked by setbacks. Al Hazm has since lost to Al Ittihad FC (1-0 on April 3) and Al Khaleej (2-1 on March 6), but also earned a 2-1 win over Al Kholood on March 12 and a 3-1 victory over Al Ettifaq Saudi Club on Feb. 27. Other results include a 1-1 draw with Al Ittihad on Feb. 24, a 4-0 loss to Al Nassr on Feb. 21, a 2-1 win over Al Okhdood SC on Feb. 12 and a 2-0 loss to Al Ahli Saudi Club on Feb. 5.

Neither team has been particularly dominant in the final third, and both have conceded with regularity. Al Taawon has scored in nine of its last 10 matches but has allowed multiple goals in six of those. Al Hazm has managed clean sheets only twice during that same span.

The Jan. 22 meeting offers a recent blueprint: a back-and-forth contest with both sides creating chances. Thursday’s match could follow a similar pattern, with possession likely balanced and scoring opportunities arising from set pieces and defensive lapses.

For Al Hazm, home-field advantage may provide a slight edge, but Al Taawon’s persistence in earning draws suggests a resilient, if not consistently winning, opponent. The simulator’s projection of a 1-1 stalemate reflects the broader trend of parity between these two sides.

A win for either team would provide a much-needed boost as the season winds down. For now, the evidence points to another shared point.
