Benfica vs Moreirense
AP Sports Preview
LISBON, Portugal (Interstat) — Benfica will host Moreirense on Saturday, April 25, in a Primeira Liga matchup that pits a title contender against a side fighting to climb the standings.
The teams meet at Estadio da Luz, where Benfica enters on a high after a 2-1 victory at Sporting Lisbon on Sunday. That result extended the Eagles’ strong run; Benfica has won eight of its last nine league matches, with the only blemish a 1-1 draw at Casa Pia on April 6. Over that stretch, Benfica has outscored opponents 19-6, including a 3-0 clean sheet against Vitoria SC on March 21.
Moreirense, meanwhile, arrives off a 1-0 win at Estoril on Monday, snapping a four-match losing streak. Prior to that result, Cesar Peixoto’s side had managed just one goal in losses to Sporting Braga, Arouca, Porto and Sporting Lisbon. Moreirense has won only twice in its last 10 matches, with draws against Famalicao, Nacional and Casa Pia.
The head-to-head history favors Benfica decisively. When these clubs met Dec. 14, Benfica won 4-0 at Moreirense. The Eagles have not lost to Moreirense in their last five meetings.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 2-0 Benfica victory.
Moreirense will need to tighten defensively; the visitors have conceded 12 goals in their last five losses. Benfica’s attack, led by a balanced scoring attack that has seen multiple contributors in recent weeks, poses a significant threat.
Following this match, Benfica visits Famalicao on May 2. Moreirense returns home to face Estrela Amadora the same day.
