AP Sports Preview
GERETSBERG, Austria (Interstat) — SPG Geretsberg W will look to arrest a slide when they host R-W Rankweil W on Sunday, April 26, in a 2. Frauenliga matchup at Geretsberg Stadium.
The game comes at a critical juncture for both sides in the Austrian women’s second division.
Geretsberg enters the contest on a four-match losing streak, most recently falling 4-1 at Austria Klagenfurt on April 19. The club has struggled defensively, conceding multiple goals in each of those defeats, including a 5-2 loss at Kraig on April 4 and a 3-1 home defeat against Krottendorf W on March 21. Geretsberg’s last victory came March 14, a 3-1 win at Saalfelden W.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 2-2 draw, suggesting a tight contest between two clubs that have often been evenly matched.
Rankweil arrives with slightly better recent form. The visitors earned a 1-0 victory at Saalfelden on April 19, snapping a three-game losing skid. Prior to that, Rankweil had been outscored 14-0 in losses to Krottendorf W (8-0 on April 5) and Rapid 3 (3-0 on March 22).
The head-to-head record favors Rankweil. The visitors claimed a 2-1 victory over Geretsberg on Oct. 4, 2025, in the most recent meeting between the sides.
Both clubs have struggled for consistency this season.
Rankweil owns a 2-8-3 record, with their only other win coming Oct. 19 against Wack Innsbruck W (0-0 draw). The team has been outscored 31-11 overall, including heavy losses to Grazer AK 1902 (6-1 on Nov. 9) and LUV Graz W (5-2 on Nov. 2).
Geretsberg’s campaign has been similarly difficult. The home side has managed three wins: a 2-1 victory over LUV Graz W on Oct. 12, a 1-0 win at Grazer AK 1902 on Oct. 19, and the 3-1 result at Saalfelden. Geretsberg has been shut out five times this season.
Sunday’s match will be pivotal as both teams seek to climb the standings in the 12-team division. A draw, as projected, would leave both sides searching for separation in the bottom half of the table.
