Shakhtar Donetsk vs Crystal Palace FC

LONDON (Interstat) — Shakhtar Donetsk hosts Crystal Palace FC on Thursday, April 30, in a Europa League matchup that pits a dominant Ukrainian side against an English club that has found its form at the right time.

Shakhtar enters the fixture with an 11-match unbeaten run across all competitions, including three consecutive clean-sheet victories in the Europa League. The Ukrainian powerhouse last lost in the tournament on Oct. 23, falling 1-0 at AEK Larnaca. Since then, Shakhtar has won four of five Europa League matches, outscoring opponents 7-1.

Crystal Palace arrives fresh off a commanding 3-0 win at Fiorentina on April 9, its largest victory of the Europa League campaign. The English side has been inconsistent on the road, however, with a 2-0 loss at Dynamo Kyiv and a 1-0 defeat at AEK Larnaca in earlier group-stage play. Palace’s away form this season includes a 2-2 draw at Kuopion Jalkapal and a 2-1 loss at RC Strasbourg Alsace.

The two clubs have never met in European competition. Thursday’s match at Shakhtar’s home venue (location to be confirmed) will be the first leg of a two-game series, with the second leg scheduled for May 7 at Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park in the UEFA Conference League.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 1-1 draw, but the same organization’s ELO system gives Shakhtar a 97.60 percent probability of winning outright. The discrepancy underscores Shakhtar’s statistical dominance in recent matches, but Palace’s ability to produce results when least expected.

Shakhtar comes off a 3-1 win at FK Kudrivka on Sunday, April 26, and a 2-1 victory at Zorya on April 23. In its most recent Europa League outing, Shakhtar defeated AZ 3-0 on April 9. The Ukrainian side has won its last four matches in all competitions by a combined score of 10-3.

Crystal Palace’s Europa League record this season includes a 3-0 home win over Shelbourne FC, a 3-1 victory at AZ, and a 2-2 draw with Kuopion Jalkapal. The London club has also lost to RC Strasbourg Alsace (2-1) and AEK Larnaca (1-0) while beating Fredrikstad FK 1-0 on the road.

After Thursday’s match, Shakhtar travels to FK Dynamo Kyiv on Sunday, May 3, before hosting Palace again. Crystal Palace’s next fixture is the return leg against Shakhtar on May 7.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. local time. The match will be broadcast live across European networks.
