Dutch Substitutes Spark Victory Over Ukraine in U19 Qualifier
GÖTEBORG, Sweden (Interstat) — The Netherlands U19 women’s team opened its UEFA U19 Championship qualification campaign with a 2-0 victory over Ukraine U19 on Friday at Bravida Arena.
Substitutes made the decisive impact for the Dutch. Elisa Van Dijk broke a scoreless deadlock in the 11th minute. Fellow substitute Lina Touzani added a second-half insurance goal in the 63rd minute, assisted by Ranneke Derks, another Dutch reserve. The Dutch defense held firm against a Ukrainian side that was a statistical favorite pre-match.
The match featured six yellow cards, four shown to Ukrainian players including Veronika Holovanchuk and Mariia Ihnatenko, who each recorded an assist in the losing effort. The Netherlands begins the qualifying stage with a win, while Ukraine seeks its first points.
