BORÅS, Sweden (Interstat) — Sweden and Italy played to a scoreless draw in a UEFA Under-19 Women’s Championship qualification match Friday at Borås Arena.

The result defied pregame projections that favored Italy. The match was a physical affair, producing six yellow cards. Italy’s Caterina Venturelli was sent off with a red card in the 73rd minute, forcing her side to finish with 10 players.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Italy’s defense held firm to preserve the shutout. The draw leaves both nations with identical records in the qualification group: no wins, no losses and one draw. Each side also carries that same overall record for the season across all competitions.
