Motagua Outlasts Victoria in Honduran League Season Opener
LA CEIBA, Honduras (April 16, 2026) (Interstat) — Motagua opened its Liga Nacional campaign with a 3-2 victory over Victoria on Thursday at Estadio Municipal Ceibeño Nilmo Edwards.
Rodrigo de Olivera gave the visiting side a lead just one minute into the match. José Reyes extended Motagua’s advantage with a 36th-minute goal. Victoria mounted a second-half challenge but could not overcome the early deficit, falling in the season opener for both clubs.
The result exceeded the projection from Interstat, whose game simulator had forecast a 2-1 Motagua win. Its ELO system had given Motagua an 82.3% probability of victory. With the win, Motagua begins the domestic season 1-0, while Victoria starts 0-1.
