Getafe vs Rayo Vallecano

MADRID (Interstat) — Getafe will host Rayo Vallecano on Sunday in a La Liga matchup that pits two mid-table sides against each other at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

The teams enter the fixture separated by just three points in the standings, with both seeking momentum late in the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. local time.

The clubs played to a 1-1 draw in their most recent meeting Jan. 2 at Vallecas, a result that Interstat’s game simulator projects will repeat Sunday with the same score line.

Rayo Vallecano (14-9-11) arrives on a high after a 1-0 victory Thursday over RC Strasbourg Alsace in the UEFA Conference League. The win extended Rayo’s unbeaten run to five matches in all competitions, a stretch that includes four clean sheets. Manager Inigo Perez’s side has been stingy defensively, allowing three goals over that span while outscoring opponents 6-3.

In league play, Rayo has won three of its past four, including a 1-0 result against Espanyol on April 23. The team’s most lopsided result this season came Feb. 15, an 8-0 demolition of Granada. However, Rayo has struggled away from home against stronger competition, dropping a 3-0 decision at Mallorca on April 12 and a 1-0 defeat at Barcelona on March 22.

Getafe (13-10-11) snapped a two-match losing streak with a 1-0 victory at Real Sociedad on April 22, a result that kept the Azulones in the upper half of the table. The win was Getafe’s fifth clean sheet in their past 10 league outings.

Manager Jose Bordalas has built his team around defensive organization. Getafe has conceded one goal or fewer in eight of its past nine league matches. The team has shown resilience on the road, with wins at Espanyol and Real Betis in March, but has been inconsistent at home, where it has lost to Levante and drawn with Celta Vigo since mid-January.

Both teams have European aspirations. Rayo remains alive in the Conference League, with the second leg against Strasbourg scheduled for Thursday. Getafe sits within striking distance of a potential Europa Conference League qualification spot with five matches remaining in the season.

The match marks the 37th all-time meeting between the Madrid-area clubs. Getafe holds a narrow edge in the series with 13 wins to Rayo’s 11, with 12 draws.
