Celta Vigo vs Elche
AP Sports Preview
MADRID (Interstat) — Celta Vigo hosts Elche on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in a La Liga matchup carrying significant mid-table implications. The match at Balaídos pits two clubs trending in opposite directions over the past week.
Elche arrives on a high after a stunning 3-2 victory over Club Atlético de Madrid on April 22. That result snapped a two-match losing streak for Elche and marked its fourth win in its last six league games. The visitors have been competitive against top competition, having previously lost 3-1 to Barcelona on Jan. 31. Elche’s recent road form has been mixed, with a 1-0 win at Valencia on April 11 offset by a 2-1 loss at Athletic Bilbao on Feb. 20. The team has scored in six of its last eight matches across all competitions.
Celta Vigo, meanwhile, is stung by a 1-0 loss at Barcelona on April 22, its second defeat in three games. The home side has been defensively vulnerable, conceding four goals in a 4-3 loss to Deportivo Alaves on March 22 and three in a 3-0 home defeat to Real Oviedo on April 12. Celta’s attack showed life in a 3-2 win at Valencia on April 5, but consistency has been elusive. The team has drawn four of its last 10 league matches, including a 1-1 result at Real Betis on March 15.
The head-to-head history tilts slightly in Elche’s favor. In their most recent meeting on Sept. 28, 2025, Elche defeated Celta Vigo 2-1 at home. Prior to that, Celta won the previous encounter 1-0.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 1-1 draw.
Looking ahead, both teams face challenging schedules. Celta Vigo travels to Club Atlético de Madrid on May 9, followed by a home match against Levante on May 12. Elche hosts Deportivo Alaves on May 9 before visiting Real Betis on May 12.
Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday at Balaídos.
