PARIS (Interstat) — Ligue 1’s title race and relegation battle converge Saturday when AS Monaco visits FC Metz on May 2, 2026, at Stade Saint-Symphorien.
Monaco arrives riding a seven-match unbeaten streak, a surge that has propelled the Principality club into championship contention. The visitors are undefeated in their last 10 league matches, with seven wins and three draws since a Feb. 8 scoreless stalemate at Nice.
Most recently, Monaco drew 2-2 at Auxerre on April 19. Before that, Adi Hütter’s side defeated Marseille 2-1 on April 5, won 2-1 at Lyon on March 22 and beat Brest 2-0 on March 14. Perhaps most impressively, Monaco dismantled Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 on March 6, following a 2-0 win at Angers and a 3-2 victory at Lens.
Overall, Monaco sits near the top of the table with 18 goals scored across its past six wins, showcasing a potent attack that has found the net in nine of its last 10 outings.
Metz, meanwhile, finds itself in a desperate fight for survival. The home side has lost eight of its last 11 matches, with only one win and two draws in that stretch. Metz’s most recent result was a 3-1 home defeat to Paris FC on April 19. Prior to that, the club suffered a 1-0 loss at Rennes on March 22, a 4-3 defeat at Toulouse on March 15 and a 3-0 home loss to Lens on March 8.
Metz has been porous defensively, conceding three or more goals in five of its last seven losses. The club has managed just one clean sheet since early February, a 0-0 draw against Lille on Feb. 6.
The teams met Sept. 21, 2025, with Monaco routing Metz 5-2 on the road.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-1 win for Monaco.
Saturday’s match carries heavy implications. Monaco, which faces Lille at home on May 10 before traveling to Strasbourg on May 17, is pushing for a Champions League berth. Metz, which hosts Lorient on May 10 and visits Nice on May 17, needs points to escape the relegation zone.
Monaco’s top scorer, expected to return from a minor knock, will test a Metz back line that has allowed 10 goals in its last three home league defeats.
