JERUSALEM (Interstat) — Maccabi Tel Aviv defeated rival Maccabi Haifa 3-2 in a back-and-forth State Cup women’s football match Wednesday at Teddi Malcha Stadium.

Dor Peretz opened the scoring for the hosts in the 14th minute, but Ethane Azoulay equalized for Haifa just three minutes later. Tyrese Asante put Tel Aviv ahead again in the 58th. Roy Revivo appeared to seal it with a third goal in the 76th, but Ayi Kangni-Soukpe scored deep in stoppage time for Haifa.

The result defied a pregame projection that favored Tel Aviv to win 2-0. Tel Aviv improves to 1-0 in the competition, while Haifa starts its cup campaign 0-1.
