Levante vs Sevilla
VALENCIA, Spain (Interstat) — Iván Romero scored twice and added an assist Thursday, powering Levante to a 2-0 victory over Sevilla in La Liga at Estadio Ciudad de Valencia.
Romero opened the scoring in the 38th minute and sealed the win with a stoppage-time goal in the third minute of added time. His performance included an assist on a separate sequence, though the official play-by-play credited him with two goals and one assist. Djibril Sow, Ugo Raghouber, Oriol Rey and Akor Adams each contributed one assist.
Levante improved to 8 wins, 15 losses and 8 draws in league play and 9 wins, 16 losses and 8 draws across all competitions. Sevilla fell to 8 wins, 16 losses and 7 draws in league matches and 10 wins, 17 losses and 7 draws overall.
The result snapped a run of inconsistency for both sides. Levante had recently posted a 1-0 win over Getafe on April 13 before dropping a 2-0 decision to Real Sociedad on April 4. Sevilla entered Thursday’s match on a three-game losing streak in all competitions, including a 1-0 defeat at Real Oviedo on April 5, a 2-0 loss at home to Valencia on March 21 and a 5-2 setback at Barcelona on March 15.
The match featured six yellow cards. Akor Adams was booked in the 10th minute, followed by Oriol Rey in the 23rd, Ugo Raghouber in the 59th, Lucien Agoume in the 60th, Djibril Sow in the 77th, Isaac Romero in the 88th and Iván Romero in the first minute of stoppage time.
Sevilla’s recent form has been erratic. The club has won only two of its last 10 games in all competitions, with losses to Real Madrid, Deportivo Alaves, Athletic Bilbao and Mallorca among the defeats. Levante, meanwhile, has shown flashes of resilience, including a 4-2 victory over Real Oviedo on March 21 and a 2-0 win over Deportivo Alaves on Feb. 27.
Thursday’s contest was the second meeting this season between the two clubs. On Jan. 4, Levante beat Sevilla 3-0 in Seville. That result, combined with Thursday’s win, gave Levante a season sweep.
Interstat’s game simulator had projected a 1-1 draw, while its ELO system gave Sevilla a 65.10 percent probability of winning. Instead, Levante dominated possession and created more chances, with Romero proving the difference.
Romero’s first goal came from open play after a buildup that involved multiple passes. He later set up a chance that did not result in a goal for himself but contributed to the overall attack. His second goal, deep into stoppage time, ended any hopes of a Sevilla comeback.
Sevilla struggled to generate offense, managing few clear opportunities. The visitors’ best chances came in the second half, but Levante goalkeeper and defense held firm.
The victory moved Levante into a more comfortable position in the league table, while Sevilla remained in the lower half. Both teams have three remaining matches in the La Liga season.
Levante next faces Villarreal CF on May 2, followed by Osasuna on May 8 and Celta Vigo on May 12. Sevilla returns to action May 4 against Real Sociedad, then hosts Espanyol on May 9 and travels to Villarreal on May 13.
Thursday’s match marked the seventh consecutive game in which Levante has scored at least one goal at home in league play. For Sevilla, it was the fourth straight road loss in La Liga.
