Neftçi PFK vs Qarabağ Ağdam FK

BAKU (Interstat) — Musa Qurbanlı scored twice and Qarabağ Ağdam FK routed Neftçi PFK 5-1 on Sunday at Palms Sports Arena in a Premyer Liqa match, avenging a recent loss and extending its dominant run in the Azerbaijani top flight.

Qurbanlı opened the scoring in the ninth minute, then added his second in the 32nd minute after Elvin Bədəlov had made it 2-0 in the 21st. Joni Montiel beat the Neftçi goalkeeper in the 37th minute to send the visitors into halftime with a four-goal cushion. Leandro Andrade added a fifth in the 68th minute. Neftçi’s lone goal came deep into second-half stoppage time, when Emmanuel Addai scored in the third minute of added time to deny Qarabağ a clean sheet.

The victory improved Qarabağ’s season record in league play to 14 wins, two losses and three draws. The club’s mark across all competitions stands at 14 wins, two losses and three draws. Neftçi dropped to 8 wins, five losses and three draws in the league, and to 9 wins, six losses and three draws overall.

Qarabağ entered the match coming off a 1-0 home loss to Sabah FK on April 18, a result that snapped a four-match winning streak in all competitions. Prior to that defeat, the club had outscored opponents 16-0 in three consecutive victories, including a 7-0 demolition of Karvan on April 6 and a 6-0 win over Araz-Naxçıvan PFK on March 8. Qarabağ also played Sabah to a 3-3 draw on March 1.

Neftçi had gone undefeated in its previous four matches before Sunday, with a win and three draws since a 2-0 loss to Qarabağ in November. Most recently, the club drew 1-1 at Zirə FK on April 17. Neftçi’s last victory before facing Qarabağ came April 11, a 2-1 win at Araz-Naxçıvan PFK.

The two teams had met once earlier this season, on Nov. 9, 2025, when Qarabağ won 2-0 at home. That result was part of a stretch in which Qarabağ won eight consecutive matches across all competitions from late October through early February.

Sunday’s match was the first of two meetings scheduled within five days. The teams are set to face each other again Thursday, April 30, in Baku, with Qarabağ again the visiting side.
