CARL ZEISS JENA, Germany (Interstat) — Carl Zeiss Jena hosts Freiburg W on Sunday in a Frauen Bundesliga match that offers both teams a chance to build momentum late in the season.

Kickoff is at 1 p.m. local time.

Freiburg enters the game after a 4-1 loss to Bayer Leverkusen on April 26. The visiting side has struggled recently, winning only one of its past six matches — a 2-1 decision at Nurnberg on March 13. Freiburg has been outscored 13-4 during that stretch.

Carl Zeiss Jena also comes off a defeat, a 4-3 loss at SGS Essen on April 25. Jena has shown some resilience. It played to a 1-1 draw with RB Leipzig on March 27, and has alternated between tight losses and heavier defeats. A 6-0 home loss to Bayern Munich on Feb. 11 and a 5-1 defeat at Nurnberg on Feb. 21 highlight defensive vulnerabilities.

The teams met Nov. 22, with Freiburg winning 3-0 at home. That result extended Freiburg’s dominance in the series.

Despite Freiburg’s recent form, its defense has been porous. The team has allowed four goals in two of its last four games. Scoring has also been an issue. Freiburg was shut out in three of five matches from late January through late March.

Carl Zeiss Jena’s offense has been inconsistent. It scored two goals against Union Berlin on Feb. 8 but was held scoreless in four other matches over a two-month stretch. The defense has given up six goals to Bayern Munich and four to Eintracht Frankfurt.
