RAUDONDVARIS, Lithuania (Interstat) — Substitute Sara Benjaminsen scored twice to propel the Faroe Islands U19 women’s team to a 3-1 upset victory over Lithuania U19 in a UEFA U19 Championship qualification match Sunday at Raudondvario Stadionas.

Benjaminsen opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Lithuania’s Agata Kairytė equalized in the 39th, but Kára Askham Sigurðsson restored the Faroes’ lead just before halftime. Benjaminsen sealed the win with her second goal in the 81st minute. Lithuania’s Augustė Augėnaitė received a yellow card in the 68th minute.

The result defied pre-match projections, which heavily favored the home side. The Faroe Islands begin their qualifying campaign with a win, while Lithuania starts with a loss.
