YEREVAN, Armenia (Interstat) — Visiting Van FC defeated Ararat Yerevan 2-1 in an Armenian First League match Saturday at Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium.

Kalifala Mamadou Doumbia opened the scoring for Van in the 18th minute. Narek Manukyan doubled the lead in the 65th. Ararat found a late consolation goal in the 89th minute through Edgar Movsesyan.

The result improved Van’s record in the competition, while Ararat fell to an even mark. The match defied a pregame statistical projection that narrowly favored Ararat to win. Van next faces Urartu on April 10, while Ararat hosts Pyunik on April 8.
