Al Bataeh CSC vs Al Ain FC

SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates (Interstat) — Marwan Fahad’s second-half header and a relentless defensive display powered Al Ain FC to a 2-0 victory over Al Bataeh CSC on Thursday afternoon at Khalid bin Mohammed Stadium in an Arabian Gulf League match.

Al Ain, which entered the contest unbeaten in league play this season, improved to 15 wins, zero losses and five draws in the competition. Al Bataeh fell to three wins, 11 losses and four draws. The result extended Al Ain’s overall unbeaten run across all competitions to 20 matches, with the same record of 15-0-5.

Fahad broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute, rising above the Al Bataeh defense to meet a cross from substitute Mohammed Abbas and direct a header past the goalkeeper. It was the only goal of the first 90 minutes, though Al Ain had dominated possession and created several early chances.

Abbas, who entered the match in the second half, delivered the assist on Fahad’s goal. He was later shown a yellow card in stoppage time. The match featured three cautions overall, beginning with a booking for Al Bataeh’s Neto in the first minute. Al Bataeh’s Aziz G’aniyev was also cautioned in the 15th minute.

Al Ain controlled the tempo from the opening whistle, pressing high and forcing Al Bataeh into defensive errors. The visitors’ defense, anchored by a solid back line, limited Al Bataeh to few clear looks at goal. Al Ain added a second goal later in the second half, though the scorer was not specified in available records.

The victory continued Al Ain’s impressive form. In its previous five league matches, Al Ain had defeated Shabab Al Ahli Dubai FC 3-2 on April 10, Ajman 2-0 on April 5, Al Wahda FC 1-0 on March 17, KhorFakkan S&CC 3-2 on Feb. 27 and Baniyas SCC 3-2 on Feb. 22. The team also recorded draws against Al Nasr CSC 1-1 on Feb. 14 and Al Jazira SCC 1-0 on Feb. 6, and played to a 2-2 draw with Al Wahda on Jan. 17.

Al Bataeh, meanwhile, struggled to maintain consistency. Coming into Thursday’s match, Al Bataeh had drawn 1-1 with KhorFakkan on April 11, drawn 2-2 with Kalba SCC on April 4, drawn 1-1 with Al Nasr CSC on March 18, lost 1-0 to Baniyas on Feb. 27 and lost 1-0 to Al Wasl SC on Feb. 21. The team’s only win in its last 10 league matches came against Sharjah FC on Jan. 14.

Thursday’s result also marked the second meeting between the two sides this season. Al Ain won the previous encounter, 2-1, on Aug. 16, 2025, on its home ground. In that match, Al Bataeh had managed a goal but could not hold off Al Ain’s attack.

Interstat’s game simulator had projected a 1-0 win for Al Ain, while the company’s ELO system gave Al Ain a 75.8 percent probability of victory. The actual 2-0 scoreline surpassed the projection, underscoring Al Ain’s dominance.

Al Ain will next travel to face Sharjah FC on Wednesday, May 6, in another Arabian Gulf League fixture. Al Bataeh will visit Dibba SCC on Tuesday, May 5, seeking to rebound from the loss.

The match drew a modest crowd to the 10,000-seat venue in the city of Sharjah, as Al Ain continued its march toward the top of the league table. The visitors’ unbeaten record remained intact, while Al Bataeh’s struggles deepened, leaving the team near the bottom of the standings.

Defensively, Al Ain’s organization was a key factor. The team allowed no goals for the third time in its last four league matches, having also kept clean sheets against Ajman and Al Wahda. Al Bataeh had only three wins all season and has now lost 11 times.

The opening minute yellow card for Neto set a physical tone early, but Al Ain quickly imposed its technical superiority. G’aniyev’s booking in the 15th minute further disrupted Al Bataeh’s rhythm. Abbas’ caution in the first minute of added time was a late flashpoint, but by then the result was already decided.

Al Ain’s depth was evident, with substitutes making an impact. Abbas’ assist highlighted the team’s ability to change a game from the bench. The visitors’ unbeaten run now stretches across 20 matches in all competitions, dating back to the start of the season.

Al Bataeh, meanwhile, will look to regroup ahead of its next match. The team has conceded 11 goals in its last five league outings and has not won since Jan. 14. Its last victory over Al Ain came more than a year ago, and the head-to-head record now favors Al Ain in the most recent meeting.

The Arabian Gulf League season continues with Al Ain eyeing a potential title challenge, while Al Bataeh fights to avoid relegation. Thursday’s match was a clear illustration of the gap between the two clubs.
